Global warming trend of climate system continues.

The Blue Book on Climate Change in China 2025 points out that the warming trend of climate system continues. Since the 1990s, global ocean warming, sea level rise and glacier melting have accelerated significantly. China is susceptible to the impacts of global climate change. Its warming rate is higher than the global average during the same period, and extreme weather and climate events are becoming more frequent and intense. In 2024, China's average annual surface air temperature, the mass loss of Glacier No.1 at the headwaters of Ürumqi River in the Tianshan Mountains, and the sea level along China's coast all reached new highs

The Blue Book shows that the global mean surface temperature in 2024 reached a new high since meteorological observation records began in 1850.

From the perspective of the natural climate variability, the moderate El Niño Event that spanned 2023 to 2024 has significantly influenced  global temperatures. Although this El Niño Event ended in May 2024, its lingering effects-coupled with the ongoing trend of long-term global warming-contributed to 2024 becoming the warmest year recorded since 1850.

The National Climate Centre (NCC) of CMA has preliminarily assessed that 2025 is highly likely to rank among the three warmest years on record. It is also possible that the year could surpass the global mean surface temperature record set in 2024.
